Origin: The day marks the birth anniversary of Chaudhary Charan Singh (1902–1987), India’s 5th Prime Minister. He was a dedicated "Champion of Farmers" who introduced landmark land reforms and debt redemption bills.
Recognition: Officially designated by the Government of India in 2001.
