Next-Gen Hyundai Bayon: The Stylish New Challenger for 2026

Hyundai is preparing to expand its SUV portfolio in India with the introduction of the next-generation Bayon. Scheduled to debut in mid-2026, this crossover is poised to be a direct rival to the popular Maruti Suzuki Fronx. Unlike the boxier, traditional SUV stance of the Venue, the Bayon will focus on a "crossover" silhouette, prioritizing distinct styling and performance over sheer utility.

Platform and Design Philosophy

The upcoming Bayon will be built on the same platform as the next-generation Hyundai i20. This shared DNA emphasizes a lower, wider stance compared to the Venue, giving it a sportier, coupe-like profile that aligns closer to a "baby Verna" or an SUV-coupe aesthetic.

While the Venue caters to buyers seeking upright ergonomics and boxy practicality, the Bayon will target a younger demographic that values design flair. This differentiation allows Hyundai to sell both models side-by-side without significant overlap; the Venue remains the practical sub-4m SUV, while the Bayon serves as the stylish, urban alternative.

New Powertrain Debut

A major highlight of the India-spec Bayon is the introduction of an all-new 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine.

  • Configuration: This will be a four-cylinder engine, distinguishing it from the three-cylinder units often found in this segment.

  • Positioning: It is expected to slot between the existing 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo engines, offering a balance of torque and fuel efficiency tailored for Indian driving conditions.

  • Hybrid Readiness: Reports suggest this new engine is being developed with future hybridization in mind, potentially to meet stricter emission norms.

In addition to the new 1.2-litre unit, the Bayon is also expected to offer the familiar 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine, ensuring a range of choices for performance-focused buyers.

Design & Platform – Built for Style

  • Based on the next-gen Hyundai i20 platform

  • Lower and wider stance compared to Venue

  • Sporty “crossover-coupe” design

  • Targeted towards young buyers who want style + technology

Venue will remain a practical sub-4m SUV, while Bayon will be marketed as a stylish urban crossover – so both models can co-exist easily in the market.
