Thrissur Pooram is seven-day festival. </br> Shaktam Thampuran, who was the ruler of Cochin from 1790 to 1805 , started the Thrissur Pooram in 1796. </br> During the festival, 50 decorated elephants, accompanied by traditional music, march through Thekkinkadu Maidanam in Thrissur to the famous Vadakkunnatham Temple where Lord Vadakkunnatha is worshipped.
